CASE 00–TEARS

THE LONGEST
TUESDAY.

An ordinary man. An unreasonable amount of weather.

At 8:03 a.m., the elevator opened and released six inches of blue water. He stepped in anyway.

By lunch, his sandwich had landed filling-side down. At 6:12 p.m., the sky copied his mood. At 11:47, a laundromat dryer kept the left sock from his only matching pair.

Witnesses expected a breakdown. What they saw was stranger: he straightened his blue tie, folded the lonely sock, and waited for the cycle to finish.

“It’s fine,” he said, creating a small indoor tide.

That is the whole legend. No secret destiny. No chosen one. Just a tired person continuing with unreasonable dignity.
